After leaving Daniel and Dia's home, we headed down the California coast again, taking highway 17 down to Santa Cruz, then back on down to CA-1. The first place we stopped was in Monterrey at Point Pinos Lighthouse. We found a letterbox there.
More amazing coastal views awaited us. This is part of the coast along "Big Sur" which is truly big—probably the highest coastal cliffs we saw in California. This is Bixby Bridge, built in 1932.
Farther down the coast we came across this interesting feature, called Murro Rock, in Morro Bay.
Tree outside Reagan Ranch Museum
No we didn't get to see President Reagan, but we did stop at the Reagan Ranch Museum in Santa Barbara. This is one of the photos there.
Friends donated a piece of the Berlin Wall to the center.
Nancy gave the president this Jeep for his birthday, to drive around his 688-acre ranch.
One of the cameras used on the ranch by photographers trying to catch glimpses of the president.
These are hard boots to fill!
Santa Barbara County Courthouse—I LOVED the architecture in the southwest, and this is one of the best examples!
View from the top of the courthouse
Santa Barbara Mission, founded 1786, present building finished 1820, destroyed by earthquake 1925, restored in 1927 and 1953.
Does Art make a good St. Francis?
More Southern California coastal views
Getting back into the city was different, after seeing so much unspoiled coastal land.
We finally reached Jeremiah and Angel Caleb's home in Los Angeles (their apartment is upstairs, behind the tree).
We enjoyed a great time of fellowship with these precious servants of God.
They fixed a delicious (and healthful!) meal for us; we felt honored.
Gas in Los Angeles was over a dollar more than in other places.
This is the closest we got to the Hollywood sign, while waiting in rush hour traffic on "The Ten," which is what natives call Interstate 10.
Two hours to go sixty miles!
Driving through the San Rafael Valley.
Our first view of Redlands, California
Redlands was a very pretty town.
There was a street fair one night, and we got to watch these native dancers.
